Volunteers Needed - Especially Novice Parents

posted Apr 15, 2015, 4:56 PM by Westford Littleton Crew

As stated in a previous email, Karen Wood has created a committee signup to break down the duties of Regatta events into Teams for the season, with most of the committees being comprised of 2 Team Leads (1 Varsity parent, 1 Novice parent). The Varsity parents slots have been filled so now we are looking to YOU to fill in the Novice Parent slots REMEMBER this is a season commitment to be a Team Lead, you should be planning on attending most, if not all, of the Regattas, and be willing to coordinate efforts with your team volunteers, be on point for questions, etc. Please click on link below to sign up!!!

Thank you in advance and look forward to the spring season!!!!!

Erg-a-thon on Saturday, March 28th

posted Feb 13, 2015, 8:30 AM by Westford Littleton Crew

WESTFORD LITTLETON COMMUNITY CREW (WLCC) will be holding their 4th annual erg-a-thon on Saturday, March 28th, in the parking lot at Burtons Grill in Westford, MA. High school team members along with coaches and adult (master) rowers will each complete 10,000 meters on erg-o-meters (rowing machines) to raise vital funds to support the organization. Sponsors for the event include Burtons Grill, Starbucks, Panera and the Westford Regency. Come check out the event, meet team members and coaches, and learn about upcoming rowing classes being offered starting in April. Competitive and recreational rowers range in age from 12 to over 90, so it is never too early or too late to take up the sport. Rowing is an excellent all -around form of exercise. A person does not have to be an aerobic powerhouse to row well. Rowing works just about all the major muscles. This sport engages the mind and body together. WLCC will be participating in the National Learn to Row Day on Saturday, June 6th. This is a free event.

Juniors Compete at Royal Canadian Henley Regatta

posted Aug 11, 2014, 3:34 PM by Westford Littleton Crew   [ updated Aug 11, 2014, 3:40 PM ]

Last week, ten members of the Westford Littleton Community Crew team competed at the 132nd Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. The girls, including Lilly Keele, Lauren Smith, Katie Stokes, Amelia Shein, Alina Ryan, McKayla Wood, Kassie Wilson, Emma Wood, and coxswains Haley Doucette and Allie Nussbaum, represented the Westford Littleton Community Crew high school team. This trip gave the girls the opportunity to compete internationally at the top amateur rowing event in North America.

In order to maximize the racing opportunities for these athletes, WLCC entered six boats in four different events, including the U19 women's coxed four, the U19 women's double, the U19 women's pair, and the U19 women's eight. All of the lineups performed well, racing competitively for semi-final qualifying spots.

The U19 women's pair including Keele and Wood placed 3rd in their heat, advancing to the semi-final, where they placed 5th. The U19 pair including Stokes and Shein placed 6th in their heat, putting up an impressive time. Both U19 coxed fours raced impressively, though just missed the semi-final rounds. The U19 women's double, rowed by Doucette and Smith, also raced well. Finally, the U19 women's eight, coxed by Doucette, had a strong race but fell short of the semi-finals.

Congratulations to all who raced last week. We look forward to seeing what these girls will do this upcoming fall season!

Thank you Amelia Shein for the photos.
